Chapter Retreat was  dynamic

By Harvey Kiser

By all accounts from members, the chapter retreat on Saturday, February 16 was a success.  The goals were accomplished of improving the singing of three show songs and allowing members to discuss four program areas.  Thanks to Byron Myers, our clinician for bringing excitement to the day.  Members commented on many of the ideas presented by Byron.  These ideas reinforced what our chapter’s music directors teach while other ideas may have been new to some

Here is just a sample of the many comments from members in attendance:

He (Byron) is a talented and effective teacher and we all appreciate that.  It is interesting that he was on us right away about not being on pitch to start our songs.

I also felt that his comments about being a unit and working together (were appropriate), but still having fun was very pertinent  learned to better sing vowels.

Think about the 3 inch space around your body to respond and move as you "feel" the song.

Byron was very helpful and as always he mentioned many things that Ken is telling us every week!!

The discussions of the four topics have been recorded from the flip chart pages.   The topics were: Quartetting and Developing Craft; Show Mentality; Developing Our Performances; Incorporating New Members, Musically & in Activities; and Improving Yourself, Communicating Discipline.

After our April Show, a committee will be asked to look at the thrust of the ideas shared that day and suggest future programs and activities.

Thank you ladies for all of your planning, preparing and serving the delicious breakfast snack before the retreat and lunch.  Everything was much appreciated. ♪
