March 2008                                               InCider Press                                                          Page 7

Things are “heating up” in our show preparations.  We have seen just about everything that will be in the show now; however, there will be some last minute items to insert.  You haven’t seen the “Wells Fargo Wagon” yet, nor the “bandstand in the park”.  Pat and Paula Caffey will present us with another beautiful set (it is already built!).  They have been helped by Steve Thompson and Dave Fink.  Every year we are impressed with their work.  Thank you Pat, Paula, Steve, and Dave!

We also have not seen the students who will perform with us.  We will sing “Angels Among Us” with them, so we still have to rehearse with them.  And, they are also rehearsing their song and dance number, which will be a very impressive part of our show.  A few of the students will perform in the “Seventy-Six Trombones” parade with us, and Telva Swenson has designed and created some very colorful band uniforms and hats for them.  Just wait until you see them!  Thank you so much, Telva!

Then, Linda Uthoff is going to appear with us again singing “Dream Of Now”.  She will be down to rehearse with us in April.

So, you can see that although we have come a long way towards bringing the show together, we still have a few things to coordinate and work on.  Your attendance is very important each week to help pull all this together.

Please mark March 27th on your calendar!  This is the evening we will have our uniforms approved by our costume coordinators.  Come to rehearsal on March 27th in your costumes!

Perhaps by then we will also have our new vests!  Thank you to Chuck Marr for taking on this large task!

This show has the makings of being one of the most diverse and entertaining that we have had for awhile.  Thank you all for learning the music, being attentive to the teachings of our director, and your faithful attendance.  See you next Thursday!♪

Heating up

My Uncle Paul and Aunt Mary began their married life in 1924 with a new Model T Ford.  They nursed that old “tin lizzie” through the dust bowl and depression days and in 1937 bought a new V-8 Ford Sedan.  Uncle Paul never thought that “New” Ford was as good on the muddy roads as the Model T but it was great on the highway.  That ‘37’ Sedan got them through WWII and in 1950 they bought a new Dodge with Fluid Drive.

1959 saw another new Dodge in the driveway as well as 1967.

My Dad was a Buick mechanic at Manhattan Motors for 19 years and he always kidded Uncle Paul for not driving a “good automobile”.  Of course Dad always drove a Buick.  When Uncle Paul was 71 years old he bought a new 1973 Buick.  When Paul and Mary returned from their annual Winter trip to Phoenix he admitted to my Dad that he had owned many cars in his life but the Buick was the first real automobile he ever had.

How does this story relate to us as members of the Little Apple Chorus?  When we start on a new song we are like the Model T, a little shaky but we will get there.  The V-8 is the time we spend learning the music but are not comfortable “on the road” without the music in front of us.  The Dodges are the steady improvements we accomplish especially in January and February.

Now is the time to “be a Buick”!  Get off the Music!  Learn the Choreography!  Practice Riser Etiquette!  Get ready to put it on “Cruise Control”!  But wait, THERE’S MORE!  Why not “Sing Like A Cadillac”?  When we get on that stage at McCain Auditorium let’s show the audience that Ken Lang (Buick Mechanic) has transformed a bunch of Model T’s into a fleet of Cadillac’s!♪
