Guests at the May 8th Chapter meeting were David Cooper, Owen Sexton (Mike’s dad) and Cam Beatty.  Welcome guys!

New Members Tom Phillips and Steve Thompson receive their certificates from President Harvey Kiser.

Steve told the editor that he was “quite glad to be a member”.

We used vouchers this year for a couple of reasons: to save on some expenses related to ticket sales for our annual spring shows, and to limit the number of tickets that are not accounted for at show time. Persons who received vouchers could exchange them for tickets at McCain Auditorium. Since tickets carry a charge by McCain Auditorium to our Little Apple Chapter, any vouchers not converted to tickets save us this charge.

Because we went to one ticket for both shows, McCain policy allowed for a total of 1,700 tickets to be distributed. This is the maximum seating capacity for McCain Auditorium. We distributed over 800 vouchers, but only about 550 were redeemed at the box office for a ticket. Therefore we didn't have to count the 250 that were not redeemed against our total, allowing us to stay under the 1,700 maximum ticket number and saving us from paying a ticket cost for those 250 tickets.

Thus, we had two procedures for ticket sales: a) direct sales of tickets to persons who intend to come to a performance and who pay for the tickets prior to the shows or at the box office in McCain; b) vouchers that persons can convert to regular tickets by presenting them at McCain. Chapter members checked out tickets to sell directly to individuals and/or vouchers to present to special people, as explained next.

A voucher went to persons who fall into on of several categories: a) Persons who paid for an advertisement in our program (from 5 vouchers for a small ad costing $125, and more vouchers with larger ads); b) Persons who performed in our show (parents of members of the children’s chorus, etc.); c) Members of service clubs (they paid $10 for each voucher that they then sold for the normal early ticket sale cost of $15, thereby generating funds for their clubs); d) Non-chorus members who assisted (wives who applied stage makeup for us at each show, etc.). We know that tickets given to these persons in past years sometimes did not get used, and thus a ticket that persons received and did not use resulted in an empty seat at McCain, which cost us the per-ticket charge for use of the auditorium. This year the vouchers that did not get used avoided the McCain per-ticket charge.

I heard positive comments by several chapter members concerning the use of vouchers. They seemed to work with vouchers easily and with little or no problems. As with any new procedure, we had a few glitches that can get ironed out, should we determine that we want to use vouchers again next year.

WHY DID WE USE VOUCHERS?--
