A report on another

spring show

By Fred Wachsmuth Lead

The music committee met on Monday, April 29th to review our summer repertoire and select music for our upcoming summer commitments.  Even though we were still in somewhat of a recovery mode from the show, we did tackle some fairly important issues.

By the time you read this, you should have the summer repertoire in hand.  Hopefully another list will be in this issue of the Incider Press.  You will notice that we have a few songs that we have not sung before. These songs are all "time tested" and we are certain that you will enjoy singing them.  We have started singing some of them already, so our summer rehearsals should be full of fun singing some new songs.

We also decided to spend some time at each rehearsal either singing some tags, quartetting, Woodshedding, or singing Pole Cat songs.  Again, we should be on this schedule already.  You will want to participate in each.

Our first summer commitment is the Open House on May 15th.  Please invite as many people as you can to this important chapter meeting.

Our show, in my opinion, was an unqualified success.  We never know about the bottom line until several weeks after the show.  But our main objective was to perform well and entertain, and we certainly accomplished that mission.  Our secondary mission was to put more people in the seats, and it appears that we succeeded in that by increasing our attendance by 500 or so.  This was a major accomplishment!  Congratulations and thank you to all who got out and sold ads and tickets.  This had to be our best year ever.

Tom Fish is going to be asking us to sign up our churches for the summer.  Let's hope that we can add a few more churches (different ones) to our list this year.  If we haven't sung at your church for awhile (or ever), ask them if it would be OK for us to come to sing.  It is fun to sing in different venues, and who knows, there may be a potential singer in the new congregation.

From me as the "show producer", I want to thank everyone who put in so much time and effort to make this year's show so successful.  Surely we touched some hearts and souls with our performance. ♪

I had the pleasure to see the Topeka’s 62nd Annual show. It was a very welcome experience; they did a wonderful job. They had 7 chapter quartets as well.

Their feature quartet was “Crossroads” who are all gold metal winners. They were outstanding. They had one of the best “Woodshedding” performances ever, as their baritone was sick with voice issues. As Jim Henry said, they had a substitute come in at the last moment. They were great. It just reinsures my love for barbershop and the beautiful harmony that is all around us.

The afterglow was great. We had our own Late Night Edition represent our chapter. They did an outstanding job, as always, and made us proud. The guest quartet sang again as well, and the Capital City Chorus and local quartets filled the evening with wonderful music . This just helped get us ready for our spring show.
And we will fill Mc Cain with great music and fun at our own show. Always a great time. Thanks for everyone who represented our chapter! ♪

Things You'll Never Hear a Mother Say

- "How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far back?"

- "Yeah, I used to skip school a lot, too."

- "Just leave all the lights on. It makes the house look more cheery."

- "Let me smell that shirt. Yeah, it's good for another week."

- "Go ahead and keep that stray dog, honey. I'll be glad to feed and walk him everyday."

- "Well, if Timmy's mom says it's okay, that's good enough for me."

- "The curfew is just a general time to shoot for. It's not like I'm running a prison around here."

- "I don't have a tissue with me, just use your sleeve."

- "Don't bother wearing a jacket. The wind chill is bound to improve."
