Any successful organization takes planning, implementation, and evaluation. To accomplish this, several committees have been operating or will be operating. In addition to the show committee that just finished the 2008 show, here are other committees and the chairmen who are providing leadership. Retreat Committee – Chuck Marr, Chairman; Singing Valentine Committee – Harvey Kiser, Chairman; Youth In Harmony (YIH) Committee – Travis Troyer, Chairman; Historical Preservation Committee and Equipment Committee – Fred Wachsmuth, Chairman; Marketing and Public Relations Committee – John Thomason, Chairman; Chapter Development and Membership Committee – Bill Hanson, Chairman; Music Library – Bob Ridley, Chairman; and Music Committee – Tom Fish, Chairman. Other leadership roles being fulfilled are: InCider Editor and emailing our ladies about their monthly meeting – Karen Nanninga; Harmony Foundation Coordinator – Brian Arthaud-Day; Webmaster – Bart Bartholomew; Identifying Potential Members from High School Yearbooks – J. Lester Hooper and Leonard Purvis; Financial Review – John Schlender and Hospitality/Administrative Sectional Leaders – Tenors – Stewart Gardner and one more to be selected; Leads – Harold Brown and John Coty; Basses: Bill Bunyan and Steve Thompson, and Baritones – to be selected. If there are other program areas that need attention, please let me know. One person already has provided his input.♪ |

April 26 had been a long, busy day. In fact, it had been a long, busy week. I really didn’t want to spend my Saturday at McCain Auditorium. It’s a long walk up that hill from the parking lot, especially carrying a heavy bag full of make-up. And it’s always hot and stuffy in the make-up room. But then the chorus members start showing up in their wonderful colorful costumes to get their make-up applied. They are chatting and are excited about the show. My mood begins to lift. (Who can be grumpy with J. Lester Hooper in the room?) After we are finished putting rosy cheeks on all the guys, I go home so that I can get my two salads to Swenson’s house where Telva is preparing to feed supper to the guest quartet. The guys arrive for supper, and report a good show with a good attendance in the auditorium. Sounds promising! After some touch-up make-up on the chorus members, I’m ready to sit down and enjoy the evening show. I happen to find a good seat beside some old friends that I haven’t seen for a while. That’s always fun! The Dixieland Band is playing, and my toes start tapping. I start to relax. The Band descends, the stage curtain ascends, and I am transfixed. All of a sudden, it’s intermission! Has an hour really gone by that fast? I had been totally absorbed in what was going on on stage. O. K., Little Apple Chorus, you’ve done it again! My spirits are lifted, I’m relaxed and I’m having fun. Isn’t that what Barbershop is all about?♪ |

Does anyone recognize these singers? They were on stage for awhile during the show |

First of all, thanks to all of you for having your checks or exact cash when we distributed purple vests. Thanks to Tom Phillips for helping and making the distribution rapid and efficient. All vests seemed to fit fairly well (at least they all seemed to get buttoned) and the effect on stage was spectacular. Also, if you notice the satin pattern in the purple fabric is a flower- in fact, a wild rose. Someone should write a barbershop song about a wild rose someday……. Summer is rapidly upon us and that means summer sing outs, church performances, and other things in our summer shirt. I’m out of stock for shirts and need to place another order. Let me know if you need another summer shirt or new members that don’t have one. The price is $15 for your first shirt (the chapter underwrites ½ of the cost) or $30 for an additional or replacement shirt. Sizes should be about what you got for your vests. |
