How do you enjoy our hobby? What really captures your interest and holds your attention? Do you find yourself singing one of the songs we sang at chapter meetings or on the show? Is it a new song to learn or an old favorite? I personally listen to many genre but find that I do keep coming back to listen to many of the barbershop songs. I listen to internet radio and have several stations that broadcast barbershop nonstop on my saved list. I carry some CD’s or even some old tapes in our van, it happens to play both. The motor grader I operate for the township has a tape player and radio. So I carry some tapes in there. Some of the tapes happen to be some of the learning tapes from several of our shows. O how the chapter has improved. What is the point of all this you ask. I wonder if we as a chapter use all that is available to us to learn our new songs. It seems that has to be a better way of learning our music than at chapter meetings. The technology is available to make music available in many forms so we can listen as many times as it takes for each individual to learn at his own pace. Do you know as much about the Barbershop Harmony Society as you want, or are you missing some of the good things that are on the web. Due to Karen being the editor of our InCider, we receive many newsletters and information from other chapters across the country. Some of the good information gets passed on in the monthly InCider. Some I read and wonder "what's that all about". We also are on the society's newsletter list and receive weekly updates. Some of the things being discussed on a blog hit mighty close to home. Financial woes for the society, staff reductions, shortfalls on registrations for international convention, rule changes for contests and the list goes on and on. You can go to the web, if you are interested, and add many of the newsletters or blogs so you can be informed about the latest news. The web address is barbershopHQ.com |
