Little Apple Chorus (35 guys on the risers), Manhattan Music Machine Quartet, and Late Night Edition Quartet performed at the Central States District (CSD) Convention in Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday and Saturday, October 9-10, 2009. Our groups got very positive responses from the audience, which included a sizeable contingent of our chapter members, spouses and friends. You should know that guys in other choruses sitting around us in the audience let us know how they think we did a great job. This gives us a good boost to keep working and performing. All three of our performing groups received reactions from judges, who met with us shortly after each section’s performances. Each of three judges met for 20 minutes with our chorus and explained their reactions to our performance; they also worked with the chorus on their three categories during the 20-minute sessions. We appreciated their enthusiasm for our good work and their suggestions for improvement of problem areas. This new twist of judges working with choruses, not just talking to us, paid off in our response, I think. We got one more perspective on how to enhance the musicality of our singing, etc., much of which our director has emphasized all along. I think this approach helps us focus on specific details, such as multiple styles of |

phrasing. We reacted favorably to our own performances and the judges’ advice; we know we have gained good experience and good ideas. In my estimation our use of DVD recordings of rehearsals, special sectional rehearsals, and special contest chorus rehearsals helped us gain better quality of singing, facial expression and body movements. Nothing hits us harder than viewing recordings of our own performance or our director focusing on us; we have to face the stark reality of our individual need for improvement. It gave us all moments of pride to have our quartets perform at the convention. We never tire of listening to them, and hope that they will continue to sing for us from time to time during rehearsals. All of our several quartets contribute greatly to making us a strong chapter, so let’s keep a lot of quartets performing. At the convention Karen Nanninga received awards for our on-line newsletter, InCider. Karen does a wonderful job of putting a high quality newsletter together, and turning it over to Bart Bartholomew to upload to the Internet. In addition, she and Terry take a lot of pictures that enhance the newsletter. We add our congratulations to her honors. We give many thanks to our director Ken Lang, to our clinician Jim Bagby, to our choreographer Kimberly Lang, to our makeup crew, to the host chapter in Lincoln, to the judges (from across the USA), and to the work of Central States District organizers. All of these folks expend considerable effort to assist us and support us. Now we look forward to singing in our local performances and for our fans at home base. “Keep The Whole World SINGING!”♪ |

Barbershopper's. And it's the feelings and thoughts make that your connection-Barbershop. It's more than feelings and thoughts. It's about being connected with the audience, with your partners, with your own feelings and thoughts. And I can say this because I was there, I was feeling the connection, I was feeling what the singers felt, and that's why I've got Goosebumps every time. The Manhattan barbershoppers starts to sing,. their voices compliment each other, their movements complete the story and made it all one .I'm grateful to be there and be part of this world... this magical and new world. Thanks Manhattan Barbershoppers Break a leg! ( An new expression I learned).♪ |

When I donned my tux jacket for the contest Saturday, I found that it was too large in almost every dimension. Is it possible that someone else in the chorus found that he had one too small in almost every dimension? If so, maybe we accidentally traded recently. My wife says I have to find my original as I am lost in this one. Please contact me if you would like to compare coat sizes.♪ |
