The first of our annual Summer Church Performances began this past Sunday, June 20, which was also significant for many of us on Father’s Day.  Approximately 30 Little Apple Chorus members assembled in summer uniforms at 8:00 am at the First United Methodist Church to kick off the morning by singing at the beginning of our host church’s first service.

The group then consolidated into car pools and traveled to St. Thomas More Catholic Church to sing at the end of their first mass, drove back downtown to sing at St. Paul’s Episcopal, where member Father Tom, jumped in to sing with us!  From there we were on foot to First Christian Church at the Courthouse Plaza, then walked back to First Methodist to sing at the start of their 11:00 am service.

The last church in the morning was Manhattan Mennonite at 1000 Fremont, just east of City Park.  We sang two songs at each church; Director Ken Lang selected these from three: the reverent “I’ll Walk With God”, the peppy gospel “River Jordon” and the classic barbershop piece “When There’s Love at Home”. Congregations appreciated our music and the LAC members involved all had a good and fulfilling experience.

The day did not end there, as we were invited to provide music at the dedication of a garden and water feature erected to the memory of our late LAC member Leo Dreiling.  Following a chapter-provided lunch in the Westbank Clubhouse the Chorus joined the service and sang “I’ll Walk With God” and the very appropriate “Friends”.

We all miss our friend Leo and were pleased to be part of this dedication.  Future dates for church sing outs are July 18 in Manhattan, July 25 in Junction City and August 1 in the greater Axtell area.♪
