Please help me if you can before I have to purchase another tux jacket for the spring show. Somehow within the last year, I have unintentionally traded tux jackets with an unknown person. I wear and possessed originally a size 44 with about a 33 inch sleeve, bought new about four years ago from "Celebrations of the Heart" on Poyntz (I think). The one I have now is about a 48 with 35 inch sleeves and my wife is ashamed for me to wear it anymore. It has a laundry mark of 2077.29 and the brand is Formalwear International. If another chapter member has a jacket that is a bit too snug for him and the bigger size I have described sounds familiar, I would sure like to trade back. Thank you for your consideration. Guess what? Only 6 weeks to "SHOW TIME"! What can I do to insure that I'll be ready to go on stage the17th of April. Remember what the young man asked in New York City? "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" The answer was, "practice, practice, practice"! Then that's what I must do as well. The rehearsing we do on Thursday evenings is great. Our "Fearless Directors" do a marvelous job of molding us into a homogenous group of harmonious guys. Ken and Don spend many hours preparing for the two and a half hours the Chorus puts in on Thursdays. They do not just show up at 7:15 and wave their hands and expect miracles to happen. They know that there is far more to it than just the short time we have together once a week. I have a lot of catching up to do so here's my plan. Practice, practice, practice, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. On my own time! Yes, MY OWN TIME. When I was going to school I didn't learn everything in the time I spent at school. I had to study at home and do "home work" in the evening and even on weekends too. Sleeping with your books under the pillow just doesn't work. Singing once a week doesn't work either. I know that to keep my voice in good shape I need to sing every day. Am I ready for the Show? No, but I'm getting closer every day! Are you ready? I trust that you will do your best to prepare and that this Ragtime Cowboy Show II will be the best performance the Little Apple Chorus has ever done!♪ |

I think it's time to get excited about what we do! There's really a lot to be proud of and most people are envious of what we do as a hobby. They will usually reply something like how cool that is and will sometimes add "but I could never do that". This is where we can make a difference! We can either invite them over for a cookie and to listen to us practice or encourage them to give it a try, but only if they promise to have fun. Fun is important! This all sounds easy, doesn't it? It's not! I don't have any 'Men of Note' to my name. No, the membership guy has no recruits of his own! But there's one thing I won't do! I will NOT make up someone's mind FOR them by prejudging their interest. Perhaps they're ready to join the minute they hear, maybe they'll never join in this lifetime or the next, or they're somewhere in between. Probably the best thing I could advise is to be excited about our chapter and all the neat things that are just on the horizon (there really are) and ask them to come over to see what we do. This way, you give them the chance to make up their own mind! Either way you've done the best you can and there's never any reason to feel embarrassed or ashamed about that. Then, you go find another one to tell, and then do it again. Easy - no, simple - yes. I remember hearing that the great Babe Ruth had more home runs than anyone in baseball for a historic amount of time. Yes, I guess everyone knows that. But did you know that he also led the sport in strike-outs? Ya just gotta keep swingin'! How many times have you been at bat? ♪ |
